Calderys announces the successful commissioning of the basic monolithics production line of its brand-new facility in Odisha. With the inclusion of this product in its expanding Indian portfolio, Calderys is poised to enhance its presence across key process industries, complementing its established expertise in ironmaking refractories. This diversified offering meets the growing demand from India’s iron and steel sectors and neighboring markets, positioning Calderys to serve a wide range of industrial sites across the region in the coming year.
Speaking on the milestone, Michel Cornelissen, President and CEO of Calderys said: “The launch of our second line is a major step in our journey to expand in India’s dynamic industrial market. CAPES is the largest single-site project in our Group’s history and it underscores both our confidence in India’s growth and our ambition to reinforce our global production footprint.”
Ish Mohan Garg, Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific, added: “India’s refractory marke is projected to grow significantly in the coming year, driven by rapid industrialization and infrastructure expansion. With our plant in Odisha, our goal is to make India more self-reliant in advanced materials, supporting the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives, while setting new global benchmarks in sustainability, innovation, and operational excellence.”
Building on the successful commissioning of the acidic monolithics line earlier this year, this new step brings enhanced speed, scale, and precision to refractory solutions tailored for India’s steel industry. Next on the agenda are acidic and basic bricks lines, with additional production units currently under development and scheduled to become operational in 2026.
A strategic development in India’s industrial growth
Spanning 45 acres, the CAPES facility will ultimately feature six advanced production lines of acidic and basic monolithics and bricks, steel casting fluxes and tap-hole clays, as well as cutting-edge testing units. It will significantly expand the Group’s capacity to serve India’s fast-growing steel, cement, aluminum, petrochemical, and mining industries. By localizing production, the plant reduces India’s reliance on imports, drives innovation, creates skilled jobs, and strengthens the country’s position in global supply chains.
Strategically located near major industrial hubs and ports, CAPES enables faster delivery, agile technical support, and optimized supply chains for domestic customers while serving as a key export hub for Southeast Asia, East Asia, and the broader APAC region. Designed to meet global environmental and performance standards, the facility integrates energy-efficient technologies, water conservation systems, and green manufacturing practices. Full-scale production is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026.
