The R&D laboratories of F.lli Mazzon S.p.A. are continuously committed to developing environmentally friendly systems for a sustainable and highly efficient growth, as well as cost-savings, in the foundry industry.
For this purpose, a new line of furan binders has been developed in accordance with the new CLP regulations in force, aimed at respecting the workers health and the environment inside and outside the foundry. These resins for cores and moulds, suitable for iron, nodular iron and steel castings, have the following characteristics and advantages:
Line ECOFUR 4000 Free Furfuryl alcohol <25%, free from phenol and formaldehyde
Line ECOFUR 5000 Free Furfuryl alcohol <25%, free phenol < 1%
Furfuryl alcohol has been classified toxic. A content of Furfuryl alcohol < 25% in the resin, not only allows a labelling harmful instead of toxic, but also guarantees that the work environment has a considerably lower concentration of FA than the threshold limit value fixed by the law (40 mg/m3). This is a guarantee for the protection of the workers' safety and health and for the Safety, Quality, Environment departments of the foundries.
Benefits for the environment: cleaner sand, thanks to a very low quantity of sulphur. No smell nor emissions during moulding and pouring, thanks to the absence of phenol and formaldehyde; labelling harmful and not toxic.
Benefits of application: Very high content of total furfuryl alcohol, very high reactivity and mechanical strengths. Long bench life but at the same time complete hardening in depth, very high plasticity and easier stripping from the mould. Higher productivity thanks to a faster stripping time.
Economic benefits: low percentages of use of both resin and catalyst, higher productivity
Benefits of casting quality: very low Nitrogen, low L.O.I. of the sand, no water in the resin improving the surface finish of castings, preventing metal-mould reaction defects.
