Reading time: min

With Martinrea Honsel in Meschede the foundation-stone for the production of sand cores with inorganic core binders was laid beginning of September. Besides the technical advantages, that contribute to quality improvement of the cast parts, improvements for employees and environment are achieved by the inorganic core production.

Beginning of September, a heavy crane moved into the plant of Martinrea Honsel Germany GmbH in Meschede. With a 500 tons crane equipment for a modern, ecologically friendly core production was transferred on an existing production building. The steel construction is the basis for the new installation which should be assembled and put into operation by end of 2012.

By the application of inorganic core binders in production, Martinrea Honsel is able to further improve the mechanical qualities of the components, as well as to reduce emissions substantially. In comparison to the originally used organic binders, gas emissions and therewith smell can be avoided in the production process with inorganic core binders. On the one hand this improves the working environment of the employees, on the other hand the application of inorganic core binders has a positive impact on the emission reduction on the location.

The investment volume for the new equipment is more than 1 million €. Martinrea Honsel will introduce the inorganic core production process in parallel with the present production process. For the future, the objective of the company is to lay out components widely on the application of inorganic core binders together with the customers.
