Booming demand for additive technology is generating increased interest, the host company says.

Rapid.Tech organiser Messe Erfurt, Erfurt, Germany, has announced that 8% more people attended this year's two-day additive manufacturing congress and that the next instalment will take place 14-15 May, 2013.

This year's event featured a total of 67 presentations and the coinciding exhibition presented visitors with the latest developments in the sector, the organiser said. It added that the number of exhibitors rose some 20% compared to 2011, a “testimony to the rapid growth in the range of applications and the increasingly widespread use of additive manufacturing processes.” Overall, the specialist event welcomed 1,300 conference and exhibition visitors from 14 countries, Messe Erfurt said.

Global demand for additive manufacturing equipment is growing exponentially, according to the congress organiser. “Sales in 2012 alone are expected to exceed the total number of products sold between 1985 and 2010.”

Messe Erfurt said that since 2004, the Rapid.Tech specialist trade fair and user conference has been following and promoting this positive trend in the sector. “What began a good 20 years ago as rapid prototyping is now increasingly used as a process for end products,” it noted.

The two-day user conference, the medical technology, dental technology and aeronautics forums and the one-day designer conference were said to offer platforms for in-depth discussions of the latest developments in the sector as well as the problems and the exceptional potential of additive manufacturing, one of industry’s fastest growing sectors.
