At the 5th German Mechanical Engineering Summit in Berlin, robot pioneer Walter Reis was awarded with the prestigious "German Mechanical Engineering Award." The independent jury honored Walter Reis and his life's work at the awards ceremony before 500 machinery and plant engineering guests.
In 1957 Walter Reis began with the establishment of his one-man operation which was the foundation for the development of the RICE group companies, which today now spans to over 20 companies and around 1,350 of highly qualified employees.
Due to the will of innovation from Walter Reis and continuous investment in research and development of the company, REIS ROBOTICS has written robotics history like no other company in Germany. For decades, the company has been one of the most important technology leaders in robot technology and systems integration, and the world market leader in construction of complete module assembly lines in the solar industry.
Stefan Waldeisen, head of Verlag Moderne Industrie (Modern Industry Publishing) and from trade magazine "Production", handed over the award and said: "Especially in times, which contain uncertainty and complexity, it's even more remarkable that entrepreneurs are able to take away challenges for several coming generations, especially from a small business which has developed into a global company."
Prof. Engelbert Westkämper, director of the Fraunhofer IPA, praised in his speech the tireless innovation and risk taken by Walter Reis. "He has set new standards in technology. This included a pioneering spirit and a willingness to take technological risks, "said Westkämper.
