Künkel-Wagner - The most efficient moulding plant worldwide

Reading time: min

The worldwide most efficient moulding plant of modern design is currently operated by WHB at Curitiba, Brazil. The plant was manufactured by Künkel-Wagner Prozesstechnologie GmbH, Germany. It is equipped with a moulding machine type D-HPM-A (flask size 1.250 x 900 x 400/400 mm) and designed for an output of 225 moulds per hour in an A-B pattern changing mode. The plant is provided with 14 manual core setting stations and 2 fully automatic core setting devices as well as with two automatic pouring ladles type PUMA, supplied by the Künkel-Wagner subsidiary SLS. While the cooling time can be freely chosen the average cooling time for each pattern is 1,5 hours. All indexing motions of the plant are double stroke motions which guarantee a smooth operation.

Drilled vent holes ensure mould ventilation. The sprue positions can be freely selected and the management of all pattern data is effected over a visualization system with open programming. Quality-related data are assigned to each casting by means of the flask tracking system. In its final construction phase the plant will be equipped with a third fully automatic ladle pouring machine, type PUMA 25. An iron management system coordinates the required ladle changes, thus ensuring a continuous pouring operation for the smooth production of engine blocks.
