As Dr.-Ing. Timo Würz, Managing Director Metallurgy & Thermoprocessing at VDMA, announces, the association has adopted a new name.
The Metallurgy Association was formed in 2017 through the merger of the three former associations for foundry machinery, metallurgical and rolling mill equipment, and thermal process technology. Since then, these areas have continued as specialist groups within the association, characterized by numerous technical overlaps and closely interconnected industry topics.
While the previous name “Metallurgy” contributed positively to the association’s positioning, it became increasingly evident that thermal process technology was not sufficiently visible in the overall identity. In particular, companies from the glass and ceramics sectors, other process industries, as well as component suppliers such as combustion technology providers and fuel handling system manufacturers, did not always clearly recognize themselves in the association’s name.
What are the advantages of the new name?
• Greater visibility for thermal process technology – both within and outside the association
• Clearer international positioning through a consistent English designation
• Stronger representation of all specialist groups, especially in markets and among partners beyond traditional metal production
• No structural or content changes: The association’s professional activities and organizational structure remain unchanged
With the new name “Metallurgy & Thermoprocessing,” the association sets a clear signal for a modern, transparent, and internationally aligned positioning. The renaming acknowledges the diversity of the represented companies and provides a solid foundation for the continued successful development of their joint activities.
