Munro EV to Expand Production of Electric Off-Road Vehicles for Key Industries

E-vehicles for the mining, defense, and construction sectors

Lesedauer: min

As The Manufacturer reports, Scottish electric vehicle manufacturer Munro EV has secured £2 million in new funding. The fresh capital comes from existing investor Elbow Beach as well as other partners and is intended to accelerate production of the M-Series – a robust line of electric off-road vehicles designed for demanding industrial applications.

The M-Series vehicles are specifically engineered to meet the rigorous requirements of mining, defense, and construction companies. The investment comes at a time when these sectors are under growing pressure to decarbonize their operations: mining alone accounts for 4 to 7% of global CO₂ emissions. While the electrification of passenger cars is advancing rapidly, high-energy commercial and off-road vehicles remain largely dependent on diesel.

With the M-Series, Munro offers an emission-free alternative for this underserved market – a vehicle uncompromisingly designed for power and durability. The models feature a payload capacity of up to 1,000 kg and a range of over 170 miles per charge, making them ideal for tough operations in mines, construction sites, and military environments.

Expanding production to meet rising demand

Thanks to the new funding, Munro will significantly expand its production facility in Glasgow to fulfill existing customer orders worth £17 million. The expansion is expected to create up to 300 new jobs. The company aims to increase its annual production to up to 5,000 vehicles within the next six years. Initial deliveries of the M-Series have already been made to the Gleneagles Hotel and Denbighshire Council.

“Elbow Beach is proud to support Munro – an outstanding example of advanced manufacturing in Scotland,” said JP, co-founder and CEO of Elbow Beach. “Munro’s focused approach offers a capital-efficient solution that accelerates decarbonization while driving significant economic benefits for the real economy.”

Russel Peterson, co-founder and CEO of Munro EV, also emphasized the strategic importance of the investment:“This funding highlights the urgent need for zero-emission solutions in heavy industry. Companies in the mining, defense, and construction sectors are actively seeking alternatives to diesel-powered vehicles – both to meet sustainability goals and to reduce operating costs. Our M-Series addresses both, without compromising on performance or reliability.”

Peterson continued:

“We offer a unique combination of power, durability, and sustainability that meets the challenges of decarbonization in industrial applications. The UK Ministry of Defence, as part of its Land Mobility Strategy, is exploring replacement vehicles for its Land Rover and Pinzgauer fleets – and the Munro M-Series is ideally suited for this: more capable, quieter, and cleaner. This is not a lifestyle vehicle but one purpose-built as an electric off-road vehicle for use in harsh environments.”

Targeted investment in growth and innovation

The new funds will be used strategically to:
• Expand production capacity at the Glasgow facility
Hire additional staff in assembly and engineering
Develop sector-specific vehicle configurations
Strengthen the sales and service network in target industries

With its clear focus on the mining, defense, and construction sectors, Munro EV is positioning itself as a pioneer in a segment that remains largely unelectrified. The M-Series has been extensively tested under extreme off-road conditions and meets the highest standards of durability, safety, and performance – essential factors for use in mission-critical industries.
