Reena Bhagwati appointed president of The Institute of Indian Foundrymen

KOLKATA: The Institute of Indian Foundrymen (IIF), an apex body of foundry industry in India, hasappointed Reena Bhagwati, joint managing director of Bhagwati Autocast Ltd, as its new president.

Ms. Bhagwati, an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, US, succeeds Mr. Harsh Jha, former managing director of Tata Metaliks Ltd. Vikas Garg, managing director, Forace Polymers (P) Ltd., has been elected as the vice-president of IIF. Bhagwati and Garg have been elected by the IIF members and would hold their positions till the next AGM in 2014, the association said in a statement.

Ms Bhagwati is also actively associated with apex chambers of commerce, like the Confederation of Indian Industry(CII) in the capacity of Convener of the CII Gujarat Skill Development, Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA) as a Governing Body Member and a Member of the Gujarat Chapter of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO).

Incidentally, Bhagwati was earlier the vice president of IIF that serves as the nodal reference body to the government of India for the foundry Industry and is critical to the manufacturing of metals and minerals in India. The foundry industry comprises of approximately 5000 units and employs over half a million people.

Commenting on her appointment Ms. Bhagwati said: "My aim is to ensure that the institute provides maximum value to its stakeholders and also to raise the existing status of our Institute and the industry in the domestic scenario and give it its rightful place along with other important industry associations."

IIF was set up in 1950 to promote education, research, training and development to Indian foundrymen and to serve as a nodal point of reference between the customers and suppliers of the Indian foundry industry on a global scale. With its headquarter in Kolkata, IIF presently services the entire country through its 26 chapters under four regional branches in Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai & Chennai. The Institute is a member of the World Foundrymen Organisation (WFO) and the CII.
