As reported by yzweekly, the wheels of the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class are manufactured using a high-pressure die casting process.

For the new generation of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, which was launched on January 29, 2026, 20-inch multi-spoke wheels are being produced for the first time using the innovative TURBU-DRUCK high-pressure die casting process. The technology was developed by ENTEC-STRACON and has been continuously optimized since 2018. After more than 65,000 hours of testing, series production readiness for light alloy wheels has now been achieved.

Technological milestone in lightweight engineering

The high-pressure die casting process offers exceptional design flexibility and opens up new possibilities in terms of wheel design and aerodynamics. At the same time, it ensures:

  • Weight optimization without compromising stiffness and durability
  • High structural integrity and precisely formed spokes
  • Excellent surface quality suitable for demanding mass production
  • Efficient material utilization in support of sustainable production goals

Production is carried out using AI-supported, autonomously controlled software solutions. The process uses 100% recycled materials. Double-platen molds and die casting machines with clamping forces ranging from 1,300 to 1,800 tons are employed, suitable for aluminum and magnesium alloys. Wheels up to 24 inches are manufactured – covering entry-level through premium segments.

After BMW, now Mercedes-Benz

After the BMW M5 became the first series-production vehicle in 2025 to use light alloy wheels manufactured with the TURBU-DRUCK process, Mercedes-Benz now follows with its flagship model.

The patented process is based on a specialized metal pouring technology and is considered forward-looking for the high-end market. In addition to its technological advantages, it offers an economically attractive return on investment.

For ENTEC-STRACON, the project with Mercedes-Benz represents not only a technological breakthrough, but also proof of a trusting and equal partnership – fully in line with Mercedes-Benz’s 140-year history of innovation.
