EATON RAPIDS - A Rochester company was awarded a $3.5 million grant to research and develop materials for wind turbine components that are expected to be produced in Eaton Rapids. URV USA LLC, part of Finland's URV Foundry, received $3.5 million from Michigan to help URV research and develop materials and casting for the turbines. In June, the company was awarded a separate $3.5 million grant and $500,000 loan from federal stimulus funds to create a foundry that would produce castings for wind turbine components. The foundry will be located next to the Astraeus Wind Energy Inc. complex in Eaton Rapids.
