GE to introduce 660 MW and 800 MW steam turbines in India

PTI reported that looking to strengthen its presence in the fast growing power sector General Electric will introduce 660 and 800 MW supercritical steam turbines in India this year.

With India targeting a capacity addition of 100,000 MW in the FY12 the demand for various US power equipment including high efficiency turbines is expected to be significant.

Mr Kishore Jayaraman President and CEO of GE Energy India told that the recent focus on using higher efficiency thermal products in India allows GE to introduce its latest generation 660 and 800MW supercritical steam turbine technology in India."

Financial details were not available. Jayaraman noted that GE's steam turbine technology is extremely flexible and can be customized with a variety of boiler conditions.

He said that "We are open to associating with leading independent boiler OEMs, Consultants and EPC contractors to develop the most optimal solution to the plant owners."

The steam turbine generator market in the country is expected to be around 10GW to 12 GW per annum over next ten years.
