German manufacturing sales down by 3pct MoM in September

Provisional data released by the Federal Statistics of Germany showed that German manufacturing turnover declined month over month in September 2012, reversing completely the modest increase in August 2012.

Manufacturing sales fell by a seasonally and working day adjusted 3% in real terms in September 2012 following a revised 0.2% increase in August 2012.

Domestic sales fell 2% compared to a steeper 4% drop in sales to foreign customers. Sales to euro area countries and other countries were down 4% and 7.4%, respectively.

Annually, turnover fell by a working day adjusted 2.6% in September 2012, with domestic and overseas sales declining by 3.6% and 1.4%, respectively. Manufacturing sales to euro area countries declined 9.6%, while sales to other countries fell by a more modest 4.6%.
