The Sub Committee 2 of the House Committee on Environment of the State Assembly under the chairmanship of Mr Debasis Samantaray along with other members Mr Arun Sahu and Mr Nabin Nanda and senior government officials visited the Vedanta plant site and reviewed the measures taken by the company to control pollution.

The team, together with local MLA Mr Naba Das, Rengali MLA Mr Duryodhan Garadia, district collector Mr SN Mishra and Regional Officer of State Pollution Control Board Mr Sitikantha Sahu visited the company's smelter, captive power plant and other areas. Later, a review meeting was held with the House panel being unanimous in appreciating the measures taken by Vedanta for pollution control.

Briefing reporters after the visit, the panel chairman expressed satisfaction. Effective systems have been put in place by Vedanta to maintain the emission levels within permissible limits. We have verified this during the visit.

To a question some erring industrial units of Jharsuguda, he said that the Pollution Control Board has been issuing notices to such industries that are found deviating or violating the norms. Despite this if such industries don't respond, strict action will be taken against them. We are monitoring and keeping vigil.
