Tokyo - A huge deposit of rare earths has been discovered on the seabed of the Pacific. As the newspaper "Nikkei", citing reports on a study by Japanese researchers who deposit at some 100 billion tonnes. The rare metals are to be located in a depth of 3500 to 6000 meters and cover an area of more than eleven million square meters. The high-tech industry needs the raw materials to produce mobile phones, electric cars or solar panels. However, the resources are scarce. China dominates the market.
