WEG wins European Electric Motors for Water and Waste Water Customer Value Enhancement Award

Reading time: min

Global research organisation Frost & Sullivan has presented a Customer Value Enhancement Award to motor manufacturer WEG, following its Best Practices Research programme.

The 2012 European Electric Motors for Water and Waste Water Customer Value Enhancement Award is a prestigious unbiased, third-party recognition of WEG's accomplishments in supplying electric motors to a fundamentally important industry. The Frost & Sullivan Award is presented to the company which has best demonstrated excellence in implementing strategies that proactively create value for its customers by improving return on investment.

Key to WEG's win was the launch of its new range of IE2/IE3 high efficiency electric motors, which comply with the UK WIMES (Water Industry Mechanical and Electric Specifications) Requirements. Designated the W22 range, these motors optimise performance by careful attention to their design details. They are freely available from a wide distributor network, making them quickly and easily accessible throughout Europe.

Significantly they are ideal for use with variable speed drives, which have the capacity to save vast amounts of energy. Energy is a major element in the total lifetime cost of ownership of an electric motor (about 90 per cent, the remainder being purchase price, installation and maintenance). Thus WEG's championing of variable speed drives with its motors can make a significant and sustained contribution to an operators' bottom line.

The judges commended WEG for its focus on customer feedback and support. Motors can have a long working life, and WEG is keen to maintain a service commitment to its customers to make sure that its motors always run well and reliably. This also gives WEG the opportunity to maintain a dialogue with users, making sure they are getting the best from their equipment and keeping them informed of developments in technology, legislation, etc.

Frost & Sullivan also highlighted WEG's strategy of constantly developing its products, leading to steady improvements for users' plant and equipment an example of that being the recently launched IE4 efficiency rated W22 motor range.  This motor is the most complete global Super Premium Efficiency rated range available on the market today.

In presenting the Award, Frost & Sullivan noted that WEG is one of the prominent participants in the water and waste water industry in Europe. Through its complete product offering, strong customer orientation, technical expertise, and project-based customised offering, it enhances value for customers in this sector. These factors make WEG the worthy recipient of the 2012 Frost & Sullivan Customer Value Enhancement Award in the European Electric Motors for the Water and Waste Water Industry.

Russel Maccabe, who collected the Award on behalf of WEG, says: "WEG were delighted to receive this prestigious award from Frost & Sullivan in recognition of the efforts the company has made in developing energy efficient solutions for the water industry and broader market place.  Through building strong relationships with our partners, listening to their needs and the needs of their customers we have been able to bring new products to market which meet and far exceed the needs of legislation and as this award endorses enhance value to the customer."
