Finally, the time has come! Events with physical presence can be held again. The outlook is very good that the Austrian Foundry Conference on 28/29 April 2022 can be held. The numerous enquiries and the many positive feedbacks indicate a lively interest and lead us to expect a large number of visitors.

The conference will also honour 25 years of cooperation between the Austrian Foundry Institute and the University of Leoben, Chair of Foundry Science. The cooperation between the University of Leoben, with its focus on teaching and scientific research, and the ÖGI, as a practice-oriented non-university institute and link to industry, will be celebrated in a ceremony. This is also an occasion to report on research projects at the foundry chairs of the German-speaking universities and on current projects at the ÖGI in a scientific lecture focus. The economically difficult situation of the foundry industry as a result of COVID-19, the discussion on climate neutrality and digitalisation as well as the change to e-mobility will also be topics.

The aim and motivation of the organisers is also to offer the participants, in addition to interesting technical lectures, an informative exhibition of the supplier industry as well as a supporting program for an informal exchange of information and ideas. After a 2-year break due to corona, there is an enormous need to catch up in this respect and a need for personal contacts and discussions.

After 7 years, the conference will again take place in Leoben, in the premises of the University of Leoben, and the Foundrymen's Evening in the newly designed Live Congress. A lot has happened and changed at the ÖGI in these 7 years. New research topics have been taken up, which deal with the topic of climate neutrality as well as energy and resource saving in foundries and in the application of castings on different levels. The research infrastructure in the laboratories was modernised and expanded, including a 3D sand printer. A good basis for new opportunities and future R&D projects. The conference offers participants the opportunity to visit or take a tour of the ÖGI and learn about current developments.

The organisers look forward to your visit and the opportunity to welcome you in person at the conference on 28/29 April.
