The groundbreaking ceremony for the largest investment project in the history of machine engineering company Fill was held on Friday, February 10, 2023. The new Power Cube building will be equipped with an intelligent, economic utilization and energy solution. As an “energy booster”, the Power Cube will not only supply the company premises with power, but also serve as a leisure and activity area for the team. Its photovoltaic systems, integrated into the roof and facade, act as a power producer and generate more energy than the building needs for itself. Fill is aiming to be one hundred percent energy self-sufficient by 2025.
“Instead of sacrificing more green areas for parking spaces, we are constructing what is – from an environmental perspective – an extremely sustainable building on ground that is already paved. With the new, multifunctional Power Cube, we, the owning family, are sending a clear signal for our site in Gurten and creating ideal conditions for the future of our company,” said Andreas Fill, CEO and proprietor of Fill Machine Engineering, at the groundbreaking ceremony, where three generations of the owning family were present.
Multifunctional powerhouse
With the Power Cube, Fill is creating new logistics areas and a 650-space parking garage for employees. The expansion of the Logistics department will begin in spring 2023. Around 2,000 square meters of additional space will eliminate the current bottlenecks in this area for years to come. In a second construction phase, the rooftop will be completed by spring 2025, with a garden, offices, a bar open to the public, as well as fitness and beauty facilities. Here, in this “local recreational area”, Fill employees will be able to strike a balance with their daily work routine. The 1,200-square-meter roof terrace with seven large trees will lend the multifunctional Power Cube a particularly green look. The building is being constructed entirely on previously used parts of the company site.
Investment in the future
An in-house photovoltaic system with a total area of 7,200 square meters already generates about a third of Fill’s electricity requirements. Once the Power Cube is complete, some 13,000 square meters of photovoltaic modules will have been installed on the company premises. This means that the company will be one hundred percent energy self-sufficient by 2025. “The latest energy crisis has shown how fundamental it is for a manufacturing company to generate its required energy in-house, so that it can remain fully functional in difficult times as well. This is an investment in our future success,” says Andreas Fill.
