As the "old system" no longer met the constantly growing organizational requirements at Doerrenberg and was also not "Year 2000 and Euro-compatible", the stainless steel group had to look for a new ERP system. When comparing the relevant software packages in a preliminary study at the beginning of 1997, considerable differences in technology quickly became apparent. The systems often failed due to the requirements of being a standard package on the one hand and being able to map the industry-specific features on the other. After an intensive evaluation of around 20 systems, the standard ERP software from Industrial Application Software GmbH was the obvious choice. A short implementation time made the decision easier. The flexibility required to map the disparate business areas at Doerrenberg was one of the major tasks. The consistent multi-client capability and the ability to map the desired business areas below company code level in Canias were the important basis for successful implementation.
Thanks to the free use of source code and the flexible customizability of Canias, Doerrenberg was able to implement customer-specific industry requirements in-house. The TROIA development tool integrated in Canias is essential for Doerrenberg today. Thanks to the open system architecture and TROIA, even the most complicated requirements could be continuously implemented in company-supporting IT processes. In addition, after the release changeover to the Java-based Canias software system, which has been available since 2000, Doerrenberg has taken advantage of its Internet capability.
Canias has been supporting Doerrenberg for more than 20 years on the path to digitalization and with the aim of improving productivity and efficiency.
