As reported by ET Manufacturing, technology company ZF has received its first transmission order for the Indian railway market, marking its entry into a new mobility sector. Until now, ZF has primarily been represented in India with drive and system technologies for motor vehicles.

According to the company, the new railway transmissions will be assembled at the ZF plant in Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) as part of the company's localization strategy. A new single-stage spur gear drive will be used, which was specially developed for the Vande Bharat Express, India's domestically developed semi-high-speed train.

“This order is a significant milestone for ZF in India,” said Akash Passey, President of ZF Group India. “With our proven transmission technologies, which are now also being used in the railway sector, we can offer sustainable, reliable, and future-proof solutions from India for India – in line with the ‘Make in India’ initiative.”

The new transmission has been developed for high acceleration and energy-efficient performance and is suitable for trains with speeds between 70 and 170 km/h. It is equipped with clutch and reaction rod systems that are specifically tailored to the requirements of the Vande Bharat platform.

ZF emphasized that the new product is based on the company's international experience in the field of rail systems and contributes to providing efficient and safe transport solutions for India's growing railway infrastructure.
