Reading time: min

STIHL Magnesium Die-Casting is expanding its plant in Weinsheim, Germany, to include a new production logistics facility. A groundbreaking ceremony on April 5, 2019, marked the start of construction. With a total volume of 18 million euros, the expansion is the largest single investment at the location in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

Dr. Nikolas Stihl, Chairman of the Advisory Board and Supervisory Board at STIHL, said: "Given the technological leadership of our magnesium die-casting products, this location's growth prospects are highly promising. The new building will allow us to significantly increase our logistics capacities, which is necessary to cope with the rising sales of chainsaws and power tools, as well as orders from external customers." Hartmut Fischer, general manager of STIHL Magnesium Diecasting, added: "The plant is constantly growing and is reaching its physical limits. By building a logistics facility, we are making room for the future growth and optimization of logistics processes and creating space for new machinery."

STIHL creates new jobs and reaffirms its commitment to the region

As part of the ongoing growth that is making the construction of the production logistics expansion necessary, STIHL Magnesium Diecasting is creating 28 additional jobs. The new building, with a floor space of 6,300 square meters, is scheduled to celebrate its grand opening in mid-2020. Dr. Joachim Streit, the chief executive and representative (Landrat) of Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm, said: "Thanks to STIHL, we have an extraordinarily successful company in Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm that is making a substantial contribution to our region's economic success and is one of the largest employers in our district. The construction of the new logistics building will allow STIHL to expand and create new jobs." Aloysius Söhngen, the mayor (Bürgermeister) of Verbandsgemeinde Prüm, stressed: "The name STIHL stands for more than 45 years of success in the Eifel region and in Prüm. Lasting success requires a willingness to change and an ability to adapt. The new building confirms the company's commitment to Weinsheim."

One of the largest and most modern magnesium die-casting plants in Europe

STIHL Magnesium Die-Casting was founded in 1971. Today, it is one of the largest and most modern magnesium diecasting plants in Europe. With its high-quality products, the roughly 28,000-square-meter plant is an important part of the global STIHL manufacturing network. Its nearly 750 employees produce high-quality magnesium components for chainsaws and power tools, as well as for the automotive, motorcycle, bicycle, electronics and medical technology industries. Roughly 20 percent of its revenue comes from diecasting projects for external customers. "The construction of the new production logistics facility is a further milestone in our magnesium die-casting plant's successful history and will play a major role in our ability to remain successful in the future," Dr. Nikolas Stihl emphasized.
