Today sees the market launch of the new thyssenkrupp Automotive Body Solutions business unit, which specializes in body assembly solutions and the production of lightweight body components for auto industry customers. The new unit has been created from the splitting up of the System Engineering business unit, which previously combined various automotive engineering businesses at thyssenkrupp under one roof.

Falk Nüßle, CEO of thyssenkrupp Automotive Body Solutions: “As an independent bodymaker we can take a more entrepreneurial approach and respond more quickly to market requirements. We are combining our know-how in conventional assembly line construction with our expertise in the production of body components to offer our customers tailored and proven solutions for all aspects of body production from a single source.”

The company is positioning itself as the go-to partner for automotive body requirements. Its expertise ranges from development to prototyping, tooling and line construction to the in-house production of body parts. Over the past few months the organization and processes have been integrated along the entire value chain. In its new structure the company has five development and production locations in Germany and a further six in other countries. Assembly lines for tooling, prototyping and bodymaking are developed and produced in Lockweiler (Saarland) and Burghaun (Hesse), while the sites in Heilbronn, Mühlacker and Weinsberg (Baden-Wuerttemberg) develop and produce lightweight body solutions for vehicles. thyssenkrupp Automotive Body Solutions currently employs some 2,300 people worldwide, with around 2,000 of them based in Germany.

“For us the last fiscal year was all about restructuring and reorganizing the business. We have become more competitive and achieved greater flexibility in project business. Now we are looking to the future with confidence. Our order books are full and we are also benefitting from the trend toward e-mobility, winning several promising projects for e-vehicles in recent months,” says Nüßle.

The company’s current customer portfolio includes OEMs such as Mercedes-AMG, BMW, Porsche, Audi, Lamborghini, Jaguar Land Rover, Bentley, Aston Martin and Tesla. The newly formed Automotive Body Solutions business unit is part of thyssenkrupp Automotive Technology, the automotive supply and service segment of the thyssenkrupp group. In the last fiscal year this segment generated sales of 4.1 billion euros.
