USA - Shippensburg foundry furlough cuts 25 percent of its employees

Reading time: min

A Shippensburg foundry, responding to the stagnant national economy, temporarily laid off 25 percent of its work force Thursday.

Domestic Casting Co. LLC plant manager Matt Gingrich says the employees were alerted to the impending furlough in a company meeting Wednesday.

Employees affected by the lay-off were notified early Thursday morning.

Gingrich says 29 of the company’s 120 employees were laid off.

The lay-offs are expected to be temporary.

“Business must pick up before we’ll be able to call them back,” Gingrich says. “We expect business to bounce back, and our plan is to call these people back. We’re not planning to go anywhere.”

Gingrich says Domestic Casting has operated under various names for more than 100 years at its location on South Queen Street in Shippensburg Township.
