The forum will precede the <link http: itssa.us2.list-manage2.com track _blank external-link-new-window external link in new>Opens external link in new windowMetal Casting Conference co-hosted with the <link http: itssa.us2.list-manage1.com track _blank external-link-new-window external link in new>Opens external link in new windowUniversity of Johannesburg, Metal Casting Technology Station, to be held from 13 – 16 March 2013. The aim of the organisers is to allow the BRICS participants to benefit from both these events.

The objectives of the BRICS Forum are:

  • To follow the foundry market evolution of the BRICS countries
  • To promote the technological information exchange among the countries of this economic block
  • To improve the professional development and education of the foundrymen of the BRICS countries
  • To strengthen relationships with the BRICS countries to obtain the comparative advantages of these countries in the benefit of the whole foundry industry installed in the block.

Foundry Market Presentations
In the previous two fora much attention was given to foundry industry data. In the 3rd Forum we propose that more attention is given to the factors that are driving change in the foundry industry to maximise the learning between our countries.

We are in the process of finalising a data-sheet that should be completed by each representing country before 4 January 2013. This data-sheet shall collect statistics that were already presented in the previous two fora with a few additional measures. However in order for us to be able to make a meaningful comparison it was decided to focus on Iron Casting Foundries of each country.

The organisers shall collate and compare all the data in order for these to be presented and discussed during the Foundry Market session of the event, <link http: itssa.us2.list-manage2.com track _blank external-link-new-window external link in new>Opens external link in new windowclick here to view the programme. Based on the comparison the representatives of each country might be requested to provide additional information to be presented at the event. Please provide us therefore with the <link http: itssa.us2.list-manage1.com track _blank external-link-new-window external link in new>Opens external link in new windowcontact details of the individual that will be the main contact for gathering this data.

Technical Presentations
Technical papers need to be submitted via the Metal Casting Conference proceedings. Each country is invited to submit three technical papers.  A choice of one or two papers will then be presented at the Metal Casting Conference. Should you wish to submit an abstract for the technical paper please <link http: itssa.us2.list-manage.com track _blank external-link-new-window external link in new>Opens external link in new windowclick here.

Please note the closing date for the technical papers is 30 September 2012. For more on the Metal Casting Conference see below.

Dungan, Ph.D., Northwest Irrigation and Soils Research Laboratory, U.S. Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service[/caption]The metal casting industry is a vital component of any developing or developed nation, helping to generate significant revenue and employ hundreds of thousands of people worldwide. In today’s economic climate, however, the number of foundries in on the decline and foundrymen are left with very few cost-saving strategies.

Global Metalcasting: A Strengths and Weaknesses Assessment

While all metalcasting nations are different in terms of our cultures, our bond as metalcasters is defined by the similarities that exist between all metalcasting industries. As the global economy tries to recover from the recession, each of our nations faces the obstacles of low-cost competition, an intense regulatory environment, and customers demanding quality increases and price decreases. The key is how we address these obstacles and continue to push our industries forward to profitability.
