Meccanica Pi.Erre has further strengthened its technical expertise in the design and manufacturing of large-format trimming tools with the successful completion of a new GIGA TRIMMING TOOL. The tool was developed for a structural component of a high-end luxury vehicle and commissioned directly by a European OEM.
The project involved all in-house engineering and production processes – from 3D design and process simulation to machining, assembly, and final validation. It demonstrates the company’s seamless integration of technical know-how, advanced manufacturing technologies, and rigorous quality assurance.
The trimming tool stands out for its dimensions and complexity, which go well beyond typical industry standards. It was developed using state-of-the-art materials and technical solutions to ensure maximum precision, stability, and process reliability throughout its lifecycle.
The design phase represented a particular challenge due to the geometric complexity of the component and the large number of parts comprising the tool. In total, more than 1,100 components were involved entirely in-house, employing precise machining and metrology techniques.
The assembly phase also required a high level of experience and coordination. Thanks to Meccanica Pi.Erre’s extensive expertise, it was carried out with full efficiency. All functional tests and validations were performed internally using the company’s proprietary GIGA trimming machine, developed and built specifically for testing and commissioning large-format tools.
The customer particularly appreciated the on-site technical support provided by Meccanica Pi.Erre’s team during installation at the HPDC foundry. Within just a few working days, installation, sampling, and fine-tuning were completed, allowing the pre-series production phase to start smoothly and on schedule.
With this project, Meccanica Pi.Erre once again confirms its ability to manage highly complex technological assignments entirely in-house – from concept and engineering through to manufacturing and validation. The combination of experience, innovation, and production competence continues to position the company as a reliable partner for demanding applications within the European and global die-casting industry.
