Ibrahim Slaoui, President of Mafoder Foundry, 64, will cross the 14 to 17 kms separating Tarifa from Tangier to raise funds for the Casablanca-based NGO “Institution Tahar Sebti” (www.taharsebti.org). He will be swimming alongside 3 seasoned athletes from India and Ukraine starting on September 6, 2022.
“Through this crossing I have been preparing for several months, my goal is to raise awareness among the general public on the importance of supporting access to quality primary education in Morocco, because primary education is key to the development of our country”, said Ibrahim Slaoui.
About the Tahar Sebti Institution (ITS)
ITS a Moroccan non-profit organization that operates a primary school in Morocco that has been recognized as being of public utility in 1957 by King Mohamed V. Its mission is to be a leader in the primary education field in Morocco by providing an education of excellence that is also inclusive and innovative. ITS welcomes 500 pupils each year in its primary school and deploys innovative learning methods there guarantee a 100% success rate to enter high school. 80% of its children come from social backgrounds with very limited opportunities and 20% have a disability that hampers its learning and social skills.
A year of schooling at ITS costs 5,000 dirhams (equivalent to ~475 USD / year). The tuition fees paid by the parents do not exceed 20 USD / month, so they do not cover the school expenses and ITS is highly depended on donations of individuals and corporates each year. The yearly budget of the school is ~400,000 USD and the school employs 60 people.
Ibrahim’s challenge aims at raising enough money to provide for the tuition fees of 60 kids for the school year 2022 – 2023 and for each dollar or dirham donated by individuals, Mafoder will double the donation for an even higher impact.
