MAT Group’s sustainable foundry in practice

MAT Group is using IIoT technology to track and reduce emissions at its EURAC site in Poole, UK. This new video looks behind the scenes of sustainable foundry production.

EURAC supplies a broad range of automotive customers who are aiming to reduce their vehicles’ carbon footprints. As more of them demand carbon footprint data in quotations and reshore casting supply to cut overall emissions, EURAC’s ability to calculate per-casting emissions has put it into pole position.

The EURAC team was an early adopter of Norican’s Monitizer IIoT platform which reports the foundry’s real-time energy consumption per ton and informs its scrap reduction efforts.

This accurate emissions data also supports MAT Group’s plans to commit to science-based emission reduction targets. For this, the team will be able to draw on Norican’s experience. Norican signed up to the Science Based Targets initiative in 2021 and recently saw its carbon reduction targets validated.

“We can calculate the individual product carbon footprint for the products that we manufacture,” says Stewart Wren, ESG Manager at MAT Foundry Group. “EURAC is aiming to reduce emissions by 20% by 2025 and by 50% by 2040. We plan to commit to science-based targets in the near future and we’ll also begin using data on Scope 3 supplier emissions for all our RFQs.”

MAT Group’s early adoption of the Monitizer IIoT platform has helped it measure emissions and cut waste from its process. It is currently implementing the AI-driven Monitizer | PRESCRIBE tool to further reduce scrap.
