On 20 September 2023, MMG celebrated its 75th anniversary at the Waren (Müritz) site. MMG's history began in 1948 with the delivery of propellers to the shipyards on the Baltic coast. Especially in the years after the fall of communism in 1990, the number and size of the propellers produced grew rapidly. The entry into the Korean and later also the Chinese market also ensured a good order situation. In addition, MMG can look back on 10 years of successful activity in the field of propeller conversion. This involves making ships more efficient by upgrading them. New propellers, designed and manufactured specifically for the vessel's operating profile, replace the original propellers to reduce fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions. Within the last 10 years, more than 400 standard MMG propellers have been replaced with much more efficient, modern models. This replacement resulted in a saving of 14 million tonnes of CO₂! So there was one more reason to celebrate.
Around 3,000 visitors flocked to the factory premises on 23 September to take part in the celebrations. They were welcomed with an introduction to the propeller history since 1948 by Dr Lars Greitsch. In addition, Jochen Schulte, coordinator for the maritime economy in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, offered his congratulations on the successful development of the company. Norbert Möller, mayor of the city of Waren, also honoured the former managing director Manfred Urban with a certificate of honour. For more than 20 years, Urban played a decisive role in the development of MMG. That's why he took the opportunity to personally explain the propeller casting process to visitors at the open day. Today, his daughter Katrin Beuster runs the company together with Dr. Lars Greitsch.
The event was rounded off by the staff party in the evening in the foundry hall, where all employees received a T-shirt with the 75th anniversary logo.
