Laempe Mössner Sinto wins Formnext's (R)Evolution Award 2025

Laempe Mössner Sinto GmbH is the winner of the prestigious “(R)Evolution Award 2025” at Formnext (November 18-21, 2025 in Frankfurt/Main). With this award, the leading international trade fair for additive manufacturing and industrial production technologies honored pioneering achievements that create measurable added value for users and set new standards in industrial implementation.

Laempe received the award for his innovative binder jetting system for the large-scale production of sand cores, which has been successfully put into operation at the BMW Group. The highly automated plant produces more than 1,100 cores per day – making it one of the fastest binder jetting printing lines in the world – and enables complex internal geometries in engine construction without additional tools or core bonding processes. The solution covers the entire process chain: from raw material storage and molding material preparation to the printing process, automated desanding, cleaning, and 100 percent optical measurement of all cores.

Prof. Jennifer Johns, jury member and professor at the University of Bristol Business School, was impressed: "The (R)Evolution Award received a large number of high-quality applications demonstrating the applicability of 3D Printing across different sectors and to solve problems conventional manufacturing cannot."

Technology highlights of the system:

  • Print speed up to 850 mm/s
  • Bidirectional printing process for high productivity
  • Inline monitoring of the build area
  • Manufacturing accuracy of ± 0.3 mm
  • Fully automated handling, desanding, and cleaning
  • 100% optical measurement of all manufactured cores
  • Specially developed “Laempe Printing Wizard” software for slicing, scaling, and flexible print job adaptation

“This award confirms our ambition to redefine core industrial manufacturing. 3D printing is evolving from prototype tooling to a fully-fledged large-scale production technology — and we are proud to be driving this development forward together with the BMW Group,” explains Andreas Mössner, Managing Director of Laempe Mössner Sinto.

“The strength of our solution lies in the consistent integration of the entire process chain. Automation, speed, and precision make all the difference — and create new perspectives in manufacturing efficiency and design freedom for foundries worldwide,” emphasizes André Klimm, Managing Director at Laempe Mössner Sinto.

Sustainable, precise, forward-looking

Thanks to optimized core geometries and an inorganic binder, the system improves the carbon footprint of cast components and enables new applications in heat exchangers, electric motor housings, and water jacket cores. At the same time, energy consumption is reduced thanks to shorter printing times, energy-efficient drive technology, and energy recovery.

With a view to e-mobility, alternative drive systems, and more complex lightweight constructions, the demand for additive sand cores will continue to rise. Laempe's technology thus forms a central building block for core production in the future.
