MAGMA participated in the 13th China International Die Casting Conference and 4th International Symposium on Nonferrous Alloys and Special Casting Technology, which took place from July 18th-19th, by exhibiting and presenting its latest software version MAGMASOFT® 5.4, with a focus on high-pressure die casting applications as well as a localized user interface in Chinese language.
Mathieu Weber, the General Manager of MAGMA in China, made the presentation "Quality Improvement of a Water Pump Using Autonomous Engineering", analyzing trapped air defects which appear in a pump housing manufactured in HPDC.
An initial simulation easily showed the root cause of the defects. With MAGMASOFT® autonomous engineering, the impact of the major process variables and gating system design on the part quality and cost was analyzed by the means of the virtual design of experiments (DOE), which is fully integrated into the software. Through result analysis and statistical assessment, not only could the defect be found and solved, but it allows the technician to understand and learn about how process variations influence casting quality, allowing a robust process and reducing manufacturing costs.
