Resand Ltd, a pioneer in sustainable sand regeneration technology, marked its 10th anniversary with a celebration attended by its personnel, partners, customers, and owners in Nuutajärvi, Finland on Thursday, November 23, 2023.
Founded in 2013 in Finland for metal recycling, Resand Ltd initially collaborated with Finnish foundries. However, the company's trajectory shifted when it identified the escalating issue of waste sand in foundries, prompting a commitment to finding a solution. In 2016, the acquisition of the old Iittala glass factory in Nuutajärvi, Finland, provided the inspiration to repurpose the factory's old glass mass production equipment for sand cleaning.
Collaborating with Aalto University, Resand saw the immense potential of the technology being developed. The ensuing research and projects, supported by major partners, became crucial steps toward a viable solution.
Facing challenges led to opportunities, with the receipt of Corona support funds from Business Finland in 2020 allowing the company to focus on designing a modular sand reclaimer Resand®. “Realizing the potential of our technology, we understood we needed to seek venture capital, and in 2021, the entry of Ajanta Innovations Ltd proved to be a pivotal turning point, bringing not only financial support but also a commitment to the continued growth of the business. The recruitment of CEO Kalle Härkki, with his wealth of international experience, further strengthened the company's leadership”, says Toni Wesin, the founder of Resand Oy (formerly Finn Recycling Ltd).
Today, Resand's sand regeneration technology can reduce waste sand by over 90 percent, representing a groundbreaking innovation with global implications. The technology not only addresses environmental concerns but also significantly reduces carbon dioxide emissions associated with sand extraction and transportation, actively contributing to a sustainable future.
Expressing gratitude for the support received, CEO Kalle Härkki emphasized Resand's commitment to international growth, aiming to expand into new markets and share the company's innovations and sustainable solutions worldwide. Resand wants to be a pioneer, change traditional practices, and create a more sustainable future.
"We have a vision of what the world will look like in the future, and we firmly believe that new technologies play a significant role in developing a sustainable future world," stated Kalle Härkki, CEO of Resand Oy.
